the atmosphere at the stadium was indeed electrifying. it feels good being an alumni. shall come to that later. the feeling of another victory is just sweet. i can't even recall it to type it here, cos it all passed in a flash. i'm still thrilled by the prospect that we got the last display band award. if any of you had been @ the stadium with the tk band, i'm sure u must have been caught up with all the anxiety before the results and the victory screams after that. let me take you thru that special day... morning. i had to finish off the cards for the juniors. made lots of them... both beatrice and me! i think my hands were indeed tired by the time i finish 6 cards for my 1st & 2nd clarinet sec 4s, and the other few juniors that i felt were close to me. however, the thing i regretted was forgetting alverina, nisha & peggy. sorry girls... gathered in tk with all the other tk band alumni at around 10.30am. went through the whole repertoire twice before they went out for lunch. i didn't join my section though. went out to parkway with shuuji, sally, christine, zukai & beatrice. yep, the had tickets somehow. had swensens' with them before i rushed back to tk to catch the final run through. by then, lots of alumni were already at tk. and yes, the band did brilliant in the run through. loud with a round sound. the alumni were supposed to board a bus specially catered, but somehow... we squeezed in with the clarinets on their bus. but let's skip this boring part shall we... the stadium was beginning to fill up with people when we reached. i have to thank chuanzhi for the ticket that he gave me... thanks a lot senior! without that golden ticket (it's green, but u get wat i mean?), i would be stuck outside. but haha... somehow shawn did it. he got the alumni all into the stadium. time then... 3 plus. waited for a friggin long time before action began. the choir entertained me a bit... and it was so ironic. the MC kept asking the people at the grandstand area to join in the choir with singing and doing the kallang wave, but none of us really bothered. however, we only started screaming and shouting when tk band came on. i'm skipping the parade segment, colourful but uninteresting mass formation and the guest band performances... i think the alumni attracted a lot of attention at the grandstand area cos we kept blowing up balloons of which some would burst and others would block the view of the people behind. but nonetheless, we managed to show off our strength as one huge tk band alumni. shazana videoed the whole tk band performance... and i think she's going to burn a copy for all of us clarinet alumni plus the juniors. yup... i've watched the video already... but i want to have a copy for keepsake! it will bring back memories in time to come. not going to put it on youtube though... i was rather worried at that point in time, cos tk band was rather soft. not soft until it was inaudible... but softer than deyi & bowen. the other two bands were on equal footing too... but we still clinched the best display band award for the fifth consecutive time. oh, it coincides with tk's 50th anniversary. that was what the council said... though we didn't make another history by grabbing the best display band and best drum major like we did in 2002, but we still managed to get the one that we really wanted. jitrui did a splendid performance with his macework... like what many of my juniors said, he had the 'marco' style. anyway... i think marco's ego will grow upon seeing this. definitely will... :P well done jitrui! there was a uproar from the tk band alumni. the announcer said, "the best display band goes to... a band (the most diao part when i actually got a heart attack!)... by the name of (i held my breath!!!) Tan..." and that was it! i didn't give a damn anymore about what came after. it was madness coming from me... i actually sounded like fabian when he screamed. kelvin lee punched the air, i was jumping around still in a daze. sorry about that!!! BEST DISPLAY BAND FOR THE 5TH CONSECUTIVE TIME!!! you have to remember the tk band... cos it's a feat so have made it out of the SYF successful 5 consecutive times. and i'm sorry that you have to read the word 'consecutive' so many times through my post! but it was truly a flawless performace. and so now... my juniors have also been made a golden batch. sigh... and i tot we were the only batch. sectional dinner was held at parkway's KFC. it's always the place where the section hangs out after each victory. sat with the other clarinet alumni who turned up. shan't say anymore... too tired today. have to go for wedding dinner later. pictures will be uploaded when i've gotten them. till then, nite! manddaw
