it has finally come to an end... and i'm having mixed feelings about it...
at least there will be no more late nights where i reach home only after 9 plus. it's so torturous... but well worth the sacrifice.
and i'm proud to say that the concert was a huge success.
i was very high during the combined concert... clapping till my hands were painful and screaming till my throat hurt. but who cares anyway, especially when you have a top jap band in singapore for just a week. i'm so glad to have made so many new frens from the aichi meiden high school symphonic band. they are just wonderful people. from strangers, we've now become good friends. hopefully, we'll stay as penpals or sth forever. and yes, i'm now looking forward to the japan trip next year for the exchange.
anyway...
they're so independent. they rather rely on their own strength than allow us to help them... really! they are strong-headed people, full of discipline, passion for music... awesome peeps! u just have to see the differences between mjcsb and meiden high sch band. numerous!!!
1. they arrange their shoes in order. 2. they respond with a loud 'hai!' as a whole band when posed a question. 3. they are spontaneous and willing to teach. (i forgot how to make the paper crane already!) 4. they cry when they make a mistake. (i play the next note... hoping the person beside me doesn't hear! :x) 5. they run to their seats whereas we stroll and talk at the same time.
see... japanese people are so respectable. shuuji... *cough cough* haha.
if u ask any other mjcsb band member... be it current or alumni, they'll probably tell u the same thing. shuuji even told me he wanted to sleep when we were playing colonel bogey and jericho and only woke up when we started playing mononoke hime. their sound is just so round. very pleasant to the ears. sigh... i feel so inferior when i'm playing with them. but i'm really learnt a lot from them. yuka played real loud, that i had to blow much harder to reach her volume. haha...
the past few days have been really hectic. hosting them, going to their concert at VCH and finally sending them off last night. i was quite emotional last night, especially sending off a grp of new-found friends. sigh... it pains me! real bad. the past few concerts would not have been so successful without them. the energy in them is overflowing. i love the incredibles... hopefully we'll be up to their standard soon.

yuka & me... bass clarinetists.

keisuke & me... good friends.

mr uichi kajiyama & me.

ayano & me.

fukuda & me... will miss u bro!

toru & me... :)

s.a.j.c.s
the time has come to start studying. and yes, i'm getting into the hang of things. my life would be better if my parents didn't have to nag at me! they object to everything i do. the worse thing was that they refused to let me send off the people from aichi meiden. they commented that i was idol worshipping!!! what the heck lah... pls lah, if my mum can have overseas friends, why can't i? so freaking unfair lah! so now, i'm not on talking terms with her. but who cares, i cherish the friendship so much that i'll rather send them off than quarrel with my mother!
sigh... i miss you people...
keisuke, fukuda, natsumi, ayano, yuka, megumi... lots more! i can't wait to see u soon! and we'll take more pics when i'm in japan! i shall clear my promos and go!
i forgot to say... the clarinet girls wrote me a love letter. muahaha! yuka signed off saying she'll miss me! lol! so funny! thank you clarinetists! the time spent interacting with you have been very memorable. will try to learn some jap so that i can converse with all of u! thanks so much for everything! take care over there people.
i guess i shall end it here for now... pics will be uploaded.
p.s. sally kwong cho ki... don't u dare steal my picture with toru and cut out my face! or else u die! :)

i have two free periods now... so slacking in the library. well, actually... doing some GP work set out for us. i'm stuck at the paradox section though...
nbc was somewhat a failure. we didn't get 1st in position despite getting 82.1% i think. so ya, i played my best and if that yields such results, then too bad. i guess i just have to play better next time.
well done though... mjcsb did quite well... :)
maris stella came in first, followed by tkgs and then rgs i think... acs (i) won us with a mere percentage and came in fourth. dismal outcome.
5th is not that bad though...
results were bad... i'm not divulging.
there are so many things that are happening now... lots of conflicts! i just hope to stay clear of all of them! i'm seriously not going to get involved. not going to start a cold war.
i'm living a life of fear and misery... stupid results of mine.
i miss u sayang...

cheers to nbc...
excited... but ya, i'm just going to put in my best whilst treating it like a performance.
may we all do well and clinch the first position along with the 5k worth of cash. mjcsb's reputation will once again be the talk of the town.
haha...
the stupid cats are fighting at the void deck... go sleep lah cats! dun make me go down there...
lol...
i'm insane at the moment...
tired... freaking tired...

zzz...
sch today sucked. i didn't bring my mathematical induction tutorial to class and got reprimanded by miss lee. oh well, i shall not let her down already. promised to start mugging right after NBC and band concert.
memorable things which happened today...
1. went out with weijie, kangzhuang, abisoh, felicia & bryan to swensen's. had lunch there and we made lots of noise. haha... miss those seniors. crapped a lot too...
Happy Birthday Jensen!!!
nth else... playing the bass clarinet made me giddy today... and my lips feels itchy.
haha...
i'm tired.
nite...
incredible23.

i'm supposed to be asleep... really tired.
band is practically everyday. no time to rest. what is this called? this is calling blogging while doing PW. sucks man!
oh well... i'm so glad fuquan is playing bass clarinet with me. or else i will die of boredom playing it. i'm versatile... wow! i play so many clarinets... from the father clarinet to the baby clarinet. haha... lame!
my eyes are closing already... so i'm just going to end off soon.
competition is this coming sunday. meridian/meiden band concert is in two weeks time. promotional exams are in two & a half months... what the heck! i must start today! must!
i want mjcsb to win the comp... we can and we will!
i'm supposed to learn jap in order to communicate... but currently the only phrase that i know is...
*drumroll*
i'm going to type it the way that it sounds...
"wa-ta-shee-wa, james dei su!"
which means... hi, i am james. issit shuuji? i guess he does not know too... haha.
but ya... we'll see about the exchange...
nite.

life sucks...
seriously.
i just found this out within this past two weeks. it has been an emotional week and i daresay i'm traumatised!
you're making life difficult for me! i dislike you... and i have doubts about my position as a player and my importance in this organisation. she's making use of me... entirely. though it may be for the organisation's benefit, but doesn't she ever spare a thought for me? no... i really think she treats me like shit!
hello... you may be a successful woman, but doing this may lose my respect for you. and i think you already have. pls spare a thought for others if not for yourself. one minute you put me into something, the next you change your plans and put me into another. it's hard to adapt, for your freaking info, within a few days. so what? you may or may not think highly of me, but what i want is just to enjoy myself. currently, by your actions... i can tell you frankly in the face that i'm not! i'm not enjoying my life cos you are making a disaster out of it.
and please don't harbour the thinking that i enjoy playing that part... cos i seriously don't! i'm doing this cos i want us to win... i'm doing this because of the organisation. i'm sacrificing because it's everybody's dream to do well for the coming comp. i'll put in 100% effort for the sake of everyone. so don't think that i'm doing this to please you... cos i jolly well won't!
i love this band. i love my seniors. i love my batchmates. i treasure all the memories that i've been through... and i just want you to keep out of it. i've enjoyed myself. really... with all my seniors and batchmates. i've found many people who care about me, who are willing to just sit down and listen to me pour my heart out when i'm down, which is why i'm holding on!
thanks kor, vincent, zhengyi for all your messages... i'm so glad to have you as seniors. you've been there all the time when i've needed you. thanks a lot!!!
candice... you're one very caring submarine. thanks so much. getting through this period of time would be difficult without you giving so much advice. thanks.
it's been an emotional day... and i don't feel a need to say anything more.
anyway... i shall not let this matter control me. it's just an obstacle which i definitely will overcome.
a good sleep will do the work... nite!

BUG OFF LAH...
band today sucked the most!!! i don't even want to think abt it... but my blood is still boiling even up till now. if i could just pick up the courage to leave!
AND HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW IT'S LIKE TO BE TREATED LIKE SOME SHIT, BEING TOSSED FROM ONE PART TO ANOTHER! NO, YOU DON'T! COS YOU HAVEN'T BEEN IN THAT SITUATION!
freaking pissed... u dun ever understand me anyway! and you'll never will!
and i didn't say that playing the alto part was terrible. i'm in fact enjoying that part. and the bass clarinet part is fine too... but have you tried playing it! it sucked! the keys were stuck for your info... if you've been living in your ignorant world! it's not that i don't want to play the other parts, but i bet you haven't tried... everytime u go back to playing the Bb clarinet, the tone sucks! even geraldine also knows... playing the bass clarinet part is actually that bad, cos there's no kick! while the whole section is enjoying their melody, i'm playing a part that is monotonous!
and what do you mean by every instrument that went to me all spoilt... it's so freaking not true lah! i take care of all the instruments. you are too preoccupied just to notice. to think you have the cheek to say that it was deliberate. i didn't drop the instrument on purpose... i just didn't lock the case. it wasn't a deliberate act... cos you weren't looking. yinchi and cliff were right beside me... and even they understand. mind you... i had to keep three instruments. you? one!
and i didn't argue with chelsea nor yirong about the scores. pls lah... i tried playing the bass clarinet for mononoke. but no sound came out... and if you are going to blame me for spoiling the instrument, i'm so sorry that it's spoilt! but instead of stoning while others are playing, why not just take the score from yirong to play? she had extra Eb alto sax parts... i would rather play than sit there to rot. and yes, i did play the bass clarinet. despite my unwillingless, i still played that part! so you can't say that i'm disobeying ms sia. think abt it!
melz: i've been thinking abt what you said if you really want to know. i know i'm needed which is why i continue to come back for band, playing the alto part. had i realise that i'm not needed, i would have skipped band like the baritone sax player and some other trombonist! and yes, i can play the Bb cos that's the part that i've been playing for the past few years since sec 1. think! why put a Bb clarinetist into other parts when he is more comfortable playing Bb. if after reading this, you're still not appeased, just come tell me. i'll make your life easier by keeping my mouth shut. you won't have to bother talking to me! you can also complain to mrs lau that i make your life miserable... she'll help u by taking me out of band! seriously, i love the section but if you think that i'm just a pain in your neck... i'll leave to make the whole section feel better and it will not hinder the band's dream of getting gold. probably without me, the whole band could even get top! you should know... if i did not enjoy the alto part, i wouldn't have tried to search for the alto sax part for colonel bogey and practice painstakingly through the whole morning. for the bass clarinet part... i wouldn't have lugged that crap piece of instrument to miss sia's car to be sent for repair. i could have left it in the band room. hope you read this and understand my plight. it's really painful. whilst you on your side, are feeling pissed off at me... try to understand!!! it's not easy...
even after talking to candice and vincent, i'm still in a bad mood. not much with melz though. i hope she understands. like what vincent said, i think it's not worth quarreling with any of the clarinetists. it will just make my life miserable. i think i need a break... to cool down and just reflect on my mjc band life.
i guess no one will understand me... cos i'm just another soul, forgotten and despised!
i want to go the beach and scream out till i let all this misery out of me... to cast all this burdens and worries into the sea.
i wish i could just go out with my close tk friends... they are one group who will understand me without passing comments. shuuji lets me say anything i like. sally says hi to me in mj all the time. christine lets me tease her. zukai who cheers me up with all his crazy antics. anisa who makes me smile all the time. i miss all of you. real bad... i'm desperate.
oh well... i guess i need to be alone for some time...
RIP.

Tk Band... best display band of the year for the 5th consecutive time. Thank God!
the atmosphere at the stadium was indeed electrifying. it feels good being an alumni. shall come to that later.
the feeling of another victory is just sweet. i can't even recall it to type it here, cos it all passed in a flash. i'm still thrilled by the prospect that we got the last display band award. if any of you had been @ the stadium with the tk band, i'm sure u must have been caught up with all the anxiety before the results and the victory screams after that. let me take you thru that special day...
morning. i had to finish off the cards for the juniors. made lots of them... both beatrice and me! i think my hands were indeed tired by the time i finish 6 cards for my 1st & 2nd clarinet sec 4s, and the other few juniors that i felt were close to me. however, the thing i regretted was forgetting alverina, nisha & peggy. sorry girls... gathered in tk with all the other tk band alumni at around 10.30am. went through the whole repertoire twice before they went out for lunch.
i didn't join my section though. went out to parkway with shuuji, sally, christine, zukai & beatrice. yep, the had tickets somehow. had swensens' with them before i rushed back to tk to catch the final run through. by then, lots of alumni were already at tk. and yes, the band did brilliant in the run through. loud with a round sound.
the alumni were supposed to board a bus specially catered, but somehow... we squeezed in with the clarinets on their bus. but let's skip this boring part shall we...
the stadium was beginning to fill up with people when we reached. i have to thank chuanzhi for the ticket that he gave me... thanks a lot senior! without that golden ticket (it's green, but u get wat i mean?), i would be stuck outside. but haha... somehow shawn did it. he got the alumni all into the stadium. time then... 3 plus. waited for a friggin long time before action began. the choir entertained me a bit... and it was so ironic. the MC kept asking the people at the grandstand area to join in the choir with singing and doing the kallang wave, but none of us really bothered. however, we only started screaming and shouting when tk band came on.
i'm skipping the parade segment, colourful but uninteresting mass formation and the guest band performances...
i think the alumni attracted a lot of attention at the grandstand area cos we kept blowing up balloons of which some would burst and others would block the view of the people behind. but nonetheless, we managed to show off our strength as one huge tk band alumni. shazana videoed the whole tk band performance... and i think she's going to burn a copy for all of us clarinet alumni plus the juniors. yup... i've watched the video already... but i want to have a copy for keepsake! it will bring back memories in time to come. not going to put it on youtube though...
i was rather worried at that point in time, cos tk band was rather soft. not soft until it was inaudible... but softer than deyi & bowen. the other two bands were on equal footing too... but we still clinched the best display band award for the fifth consecutive time. oh, it coincides with tk's 50th anniversary. that was what the council said...
though we didn't make another history by grabbing the best display band and best drum major like we did in 2002, but we still managed to get the one that we really wanted. jitrui did a splendid performance with his macework... like what many of my juniors said, he had the 'marco' style. anyway... i think marco's ego will grow upon seeing this. definitely will... :P well done jitrui!
there was a uproar from the tk band alumni. the announcer said, "the best display band goes to... a band (the most diao part when i actually got a heart attack!)... by the name of (i held my breath!!!) Tan..." and that was it! i didn't give a damn anymore about what came after. it was madness coming from me... i actually sounded like fabian when he screamed. kelvin lee punched the air, i was jumping around still in a daze. sorry about that!!!
BEST DISPLAY BAND FOR THE 5TH CONSECUTIVE TIME!!!
you have to remember the tk band... cos it's a feat so have made it out of the SYF successful 5 consecutive times. and i'm sorry that you have to read the word 'consecutive' so many times through my post! but it was truly a flawless performace.
and so now... my juniors have also been made a golden batch. sigh... and i tot we were the only batch.
sectional dinner was held at parkway's KFC. it's always the place where the section hangs out after each victory. sat with the other clarinet alumni who turned up.
shan't say anymore... too tired today. have to go for wedding dinner later.
pictures will be uploaded when i've gotten them. till then, nite!
